Between Tisha B ’ Av and Rosh Hashanah we read the ‘7 Haftarot of consolation ’. We always read all the verses of these 7 Haftarot, but not always separately or consecutively. When Parshat Re ’ eh coincides with Shabbat Rosh Chodesh Ellul (as last year and this year), the Haftarah read on that week is for Shabbat Rosh Chodesh, which itself contains a message of consolation. In such years, the verses of the usual Haftarah for Re ’ eh are still read but are deferred a fortnight and combined with that for Parshat Ki Tetze, as they follow on from one another in Nach: Isaiah 54:1 – 10 (Ki Tetze); Isaiah 54:11 – 55:5 (Re ’ eh).
